I hope you all had a great New Year’s Eve! Jon and I spent a quiet evening at home. We watched a random movie, called Labor Day – it was actually a pretty good movie with Josh Brolin and Kate Winslet. We also watched an episode of the Walking Dead. Overall, a pretty nondescript evening. Except for the wine.
Once Jon got home, I had him open up a bottle of the Scharffenberger Cellars Crémant. I had tasted this wine when Jon and I went on our road trip to California in March 2013. Jon had stayed outside reading his book while I tasted at Scharffenberger, so he hadn’t tasted it then.
Crémant, according to the server at Scharffenberger, means sparkling wine that is not from Champagne. This wine is equal parts Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and it is bottled with less pressure for a lighter effervescence. It is extra dry, but with a creamier mouthfeel and taste than the other Scharffenberger sparklers.
We both enjoyed the wine, and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. We managed to stay up until the New Year, and that’s what counts right? Even if we were brushing our teeth when the clock struck midnight…
Happy New Year!
